the post show

so do you own any matisyahu yet? cuz you effin should. i'm on the verge of spoiling it all because i've been listening nonstop mad. this has now become the fourth in a line of official reggae experiences. one is with the radio station kjah off of grand theft auto 3. one is practically every bob marley tune. then was when kim and i went to st. thomas and every taxi driver would be playing the sweetest reggae. after i got back i tried finding some of that music but it was in vain for none was found. and now i have taken a liking to one other. enter the fourth age. and he goes by matisyahu.

the theaters suck here. in the vicinity, we have one megaplex, one smaller megaplex, and two "dollar theaters" that show two month old movies. during their run, movies like capote and good night and good luck will play a month after the rest of the states get the movie at only one of the theaters listed above and it will play once late at night. other smaller movies might never show so you're forced to drive to salt lake. the ones that don't show here, will show in salt lake, but only a month after the rest of the states get the movie, and will be a single showing late at night. there are like two really good small theaters in slc, but who wants to drive all that way? kim and i don't. we have sundance, but hardly any normal people go see movies there. it's like the people that grew up in dc, who can tell you everything there is to know about the smithsonian, yet has never actually been. tickets are too expensive anyways. and half the theaters in town are closed on sunday. that's my beef.

in saturday's mail came my rather important decision from university of denver. today i received university of virginia and florida state university. it never ends.

let me tell you a few things about my school newspaper. there is no doubt that it is run by a few left leaning individuals. and left of the utah average person means the middle, so i'd guess that's pretty much where they fall. they are not necessarily anti-mormon, but they do really promote free thinking and anti-byu sentiment. so in a way, these might be portrayed as anti-mormon, but never so much as to give rise to the large population of very conservative uvsc students. the lean of the newspaper is usually just barely left enough to maybe raise an eyebrow from your average reader, but never over the top as to incite mormon jihad. well today i was reading this week's paper and there is an article that argues against the gift of receiving personal and general revelation. it is a very large eyebrow raiser and at the end of the article, in an almost challenging manner, asks for anyone else's thoughts. his arguments are not the best and i'm sure that students will have no trouble with their rebuttals, but i'm just excited to see how it all unfolds in the paper. since i've been going to school here, no one has dared openly made arguments against ideas of religion that the predominant church out here happens to believe. i'm not sure if the school paper is the correct place for all of this to unwind, but it'll still be fun to see what is said. i can't imagine anyone writing in and supporting this editorial. what will probably happen is that lots of people will write in against it, somehow free speech will get thrown in because someone will say the paper shouldn't have printed it, then the argument will focus on that and completely lose sight of the article's original ideas, then people will graduate and not care anymore. or people will read it, not care, and nothing will happen.

right off the bat, keira knightley is freaking amazing. i mean, that girl is freaking out of this world. my oscar predictions sucked. king kong overtook war of the worlds to win all its nominations. i think this is a huge upset that no one will talk about. i'm not sure how that is even possible. like i said before, king kong was at best a good video game. i correctly guessed six winners, and kim won this year for guessing eight. next year i'll try and guess who will actually win, rather than who i think should win so my wife doesn't outdo me again. it was all too predictable and nice to everyone. they voted this year so as to not leave really anyone out of the winnings. sucks about brokeback though. crash, a movie hardly anyone saw in the u.s. will always have the place in movie history and brokeback will just be a footnote about the upset. and some people are now saying that hollywood just isn't ready to openly accept and praise movies with such controversial themes. well what about midnight cowboy? it won best picture i believe in '69 and it remaines the only rated x movie nomiated and to win an oscar. that had gay themes all over the place. and what about american beauty? that movie is as disfunctional as they come. whatever the reason, crash was a good movie, but not that good. keanu reeves doesn’t look like he is planning any big action movies lately. the guy gained like 20 pounds. i hate the red carpet crap. it must be so awkward for actors having to go down the assembly line of reporters, telling the same little stories and having to act like it’s the first time telling that story. and think about all the stupid interviews leading up to the oscars. i’d never give interviews if i was famous.

jon stewart was not that funny. he was awkward and his jokes were pretty dry. he never really was able to connect with the audience. george clooney’s acceptance speech for syriana was so amazing. why was is that so many comments and things were said about clooney during the show? from jon stewart's puppy love he has with him, to winners talking to him during their speeches? it's because he's freaking hollywood's best actor in the biz right now and he's so damn cool. he needs to do a romantic movie with natalie portman. that would be, spectacular.
